Fortinet beefs up midrange FortiGate security appliance

Fortinet has declared convenience of a brand new FortiGate unified threat management device which will eventually replace Associate in Nursing older model for midsize businesses.

The FortiGate-620B is an element of a refresh of the hardware utilized in Fortinet’s line of multifunction security platforms and can eventually replace the FortiGate-1000A, the corporate says.

The new UTM contains a quicker firewall than the older box — 16Gb vs. 4Gbps — and quicker antivirus screening at 250Mbps as against 100Mbps for the older device. At $16,000, the value of the FortiGate-620B is $1,000 over for the FortiGate-1000A.

A feature of higher-end FortiGate boxes, network segmentation with distinctive policies, is enclosed on the FortiGate 620-B.

The devices will support antivirus, intrusion hindrance, spyware hindrance, antispam, online page filtering, traffic shaping, VPN and firewall. They vie against product by Juniper, Cisco, SonicWall, WatchGuard et al..

The new FortiGate device has twenty Gigabit LAN ports, with Associate in Nursing AMC receptacle for four SFP firewall ports. The slot may be used for a supplemental hard-drive module.
