Cisco Systems recently found itself in the midst of another ugly controversy. The company was dragged into the court by a human rights group for allegedly having ties with a another group involved in detaining and torturing Chinese individuals.
The Human Rights Law Foundation claims to have evidences of Cisco’s involvement in criminal activities which could wreak havoc on the company, their image and stockholders.
According to the group, it has evidence which clearly shows how Cisco trained Chinese officials to spy on net users and their activities on the Web.
These allegations are not new for Cisco In the past, the company has been accused of assisting the Chinese Communist Party officials in their brutal crack down on political opponents using technology.
“Cisco provided a secure connection to provincial security databases allowing for thorough cross-checking and movement-tracing … [such that] policemen could remotely access the suspect’s work unit, access reports on the individuals political behaviour … family history … fingerprints, photographs and other imaging information,” explained a Cisco spokesperson, according to a SmartOffice report.
