Cisco has announced two new virtual desktop devices, the virtualization software more efficient and affordable videoconferencing endpoints, based on its line of video collaboration tools and capabilities of enterprises.
Both of the new small desktop devices support VMware View 4.5 and Citrix XenDesktop and is expected to be available in March 2011. Each will be priced below $ 500, including a USB keyboard, mouse and client license.
In addition, Cisco said his team previously announced Cius tablet support VMware View, a recipient of Citrix and Wyse virtualization software pocket and Cloud will interact with the Windows desktop in a data center. The IIC is also due out in March.
Desktop virtualization and thin client computers have been around for years and give IT departments greater control over data and security functions by centralizing computing, data and applications on servers in the data center instead of enable end users do with desktops or mobile devices.
Cisco officials said the increased use of video and video conferencing business collaboration requires the supplier to deliver virtualization products virtualization architecture (called VXI, for virtualization of infrastructure experience) to effectively and efficiently the data stores and applications on servers in the data center that is called virtual desktops and mobile devices.
“Voice and video are not [traditional] work well when running [about virtualization] in the data center,” said senior vice president of Cisco’s voice technology Barry O’Sullivan. “We believe we have solved this with VXI.”
One of the new virtual desktop devices is a separate tower called VXC 2200 that is less than 5 inches tall. Cisco introduced into artwork that can be placed next to a desk phone and a monitor of telepresence, O’Sullivan said. The VXC 2200 has four USB ports and two video ports.
The other is an even smaller device called VXC 2100. Fits in the back of a Cisco IP phone, Cisco showed that can be configured to work with a traditional desktop monitor and keyboard. It can be connected to two monitors and has four USB ports.
Each has a small embedded processor for decoding virtualization protocols, which means that companies can keep data in the data center servers, instead of a desktop computer or mobile, “said O’Sullivan. Both work with Power over Ethernet.
Cisco introduced virtualization client devices and the VXI architecture for Wyse thin clients and others to support a wide range of collaboration technologies, including videoconferencing. VXI Cisco has been designed to improve the density of virtual desktops on a server by 60%, he said.
