CCNA test on routing (Lab or Sim) configuration focuses primarily on RIP and EIGRP; however, you will need to be familiar with the basics of RIP v1 and v2, IGRP, EIGRP, and OSPF. We are going to look at the operation of these protocols, as well as their configuration.

Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP) is a Cisco proprietary routing protocol. It only runs on Cisco routers. EIGRP is one of the most popular routing protocol in use today. It is a classless, enhanced distance-vector routing protocol ( Enhanced IGRP). It can also be considered as a hybrid routing protocol; this is because of its great feature to act as both distant-vector and link state protocol.
EIGRP sends updates containing information about networks plus the cost of reaching them.
Acting like a link state, It sends specific routing updates to neighbouring routers only when there is a change in topology. This means that, unlike RIP or IGRP, EIGRP only distributes information about routes that have changed, and only when there is a change to report. The rest of the time, routers only exchange small “Hello” packets to verify that routing neighbors are still available.
This is the reason why it operates very efficiently over large networks.
