Prepare the Cisco 7940G Unified IP phone to be used by connecting provided phone cables, peripheral equipment and power cords to the acceptable ports located beneath the phone. The Cisco IP phone options power, handset, headset and network choices that may not work properly if connected to the incorrect port. Connect peripherals and then power to begin using the Cisco 7940G IP phone.
1) Turn over the Cisco 7940G IP phone so that the keypad is facing down.
2) Plug one end of an Ethernet CAT 5 or CAT 6 network patch cable into the port labeled “10/100 SW,” if connecting the phone directly to a network, and the remaining end into a network wall jack or network switch port.
3) Plug one end of an Ethernet CAT 5 or CAT 6 network patch cable into the port labeled “10/100 PC,” if connecting the phone to a computer, and the remaining end into a computer Ethernet network adapter port.
4) Snap the phone handset connector into the port labeled with a phone handset picture.
5) Connect a phone headset into the port labeled with a headset picture.
6) Plug the round power supply connector into the port labeled “DC48V” if the phone is not connected to a network switch with PoE support. Plug the power cord into the AC to DC power supply unit and the remaining end into a power socket.
