Former engineer who sued Cisco now faces hacking charges

An engineer once Cisco sued his former employer, alleging that it monopolized the maintenance activities and maintenance of Cisco equipment was calculated by the United States with piracy.

Peter Alfred-Adekeye, the Cisco abandoned in 2005, supported by two companies to form networks, with 97 counts of intentionally accessing a protected computer system without authorization for purposes of commercial advantage was charged according to an arrest warrant. He is 10 years in prison and fined $ 250 000 if found guilty of the charges.

Alfred-Adekeye was abruptly arrested by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Vancouver May 20, 2010, during a deposition to lawyers from Cisco in its civil case. A Nigerian national residing in Zurich, was Alfred Adekeye in town for a few days for the deposit, but the Department of Justice U. S. a trick Canadian authorities, telling them to look for him in Vancouver Wedgewood Hotel.

The Department of Justice U. S. Alfred Adekeye charged using the user ID of an employee of Cisco and password to download the software and the Cisco site with restricted access, issued the arrest warrant in the case of Canada.

The case is still under wraps, as U.S. authorities try to extradite Alfred Adekeye. His arrest was gone until this week, if undeclared Vancouver media reports of his extradition hearing. Alfred-Adekeye U.S. arrest warrant issued in May 19th 2010 – the day after he began his testimony in Canada – by U. S. Magistrate Judge Howard Lloyd of the Court U. S. for the Northern District of California, to support the Canadian.

Road to Entrepreneurial Leadership and the African Network – – The dapper Adekeye Alfred founded two charitable initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and it is also the head of two start-ups. On one of his websites, he describes himself as “a successful entrepreneur and innovator of the British royal lineage in Africa.”

One of the companies Adekeye Alfred, multi-vendor, sued Cisco in December 2008 accused the company monopolized the maintenance activities and maintenance equipment company Cisco. Cisco has forced the owners of equipment such as routers, switches and firewalls to SMARTnet contracts to buy for regular updates of software and bug fixes, multi-vendor said. Through the deployment of updates and bug fixes that SMARTnet customers and not passed on to any third party, independent of Cisco prevented the maintenance of the equipment that would have multi-vendor.

SMARTnet Service is a hot button issue with some customers, the Cisco should have basic bug fixes and software updates available for free, such as Microsoft and Apple are feeling.

Neither Alfred nor Adekeye multivendor could immediately be reached for comment Tuesday, but according to the Vancouver Sun, his lawyer said in court Monday that Cisco and the Department of Justice U. S., denied to him during his arrest deposit.

In an e-mail, a spokesman for Cisco said Tuesday, “We strongly agree with the majority of the content in [Vancouver Sun],” adding that “extradition is a matter between the two governments. ”

Multivendor continued after the networking giant Cisco announced counterclaims against multi-vendor, and Alfred Adekeye Pingsta, another company founded by Alfred Adekeye. Provides multi-vendor service and support for networking gear from multiple vendors. Pingsta promises to be an online rental platform for companies that buy network engineers and cloud-based expertise on a pay-per-use.

The companies have settled their civil action in July 2010, several months after Alfred Adekeye arrest. Both sides dropped their claims and businesses pay their own attorney fees.

Cisco to shed 14 percent of workforce

Cisco Systems announced yesterday that it cut 14 percent of its global workforce, or about 11,500 employees, as part of a reorganization generally expected.

The network equipment maker expects to save $ in the year 6500 to 1000000000 by eliminating jobs and voted for by 2,100 people for participating in an early retirement program. The cuts, which is higher than the number of rumors last week, including a reduction of 15 percent for employees with VP or higher, were the company said.

The company in San Jose, Calif.-based company also plans to eliminate about 5,000 jobs through the sale of its set-top box manufacturing facility in Juarez, Mexico, Foxconn. Cisco said a factory worker in Mexico would be employees of Foxconn in the first quarter of 2012 and that no job losses were expected by the installation of the sale.

Cisco said it will take a one-time fee of $ 1300000000 to cover the costs of rehabilitation.

The company has announced to cut jobs in order to fight against his property into trouble during its third quarter earnings report in May. Said “The decision to include the reduction of our full-time employees and contractors as a way to reduce costs is difficult,” Cisco Chief Operating Officer Gary Moore at the time.

The company has a bad luck had tried to move into the consumer sector, and disappointing for some movement, which killed recently, the Flip camcorder on their networking activities concentrate on bread and butter.

But how Cisco moved into new markets, sales slowed in the core and Cisco have lost market share. While Cisco still dominates the market for IP-routing, has been increasingly challenged in its Ethernet switching business to competitors such as Hewlett-Packard and Chinese manufacturers like Huawei.

Juniper eyes midmarket, aims for Cisco

Update will be published by a number of announcements this week seem company Juniper Networks to provide its views on new markets, particularly the segment is currently dominated by market leader Cisco Systems.

The maker of networking equipment has a new OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) agreement with Dell Computer, where PC makers have signed the contract, resale and support of Juniper network equipment for businesses.

The partnership will allow Dell products packaged set comes with its own storage and servers in the data center customers who sell to a single agreement with the seller.

Cisco earlier this year in the market for server hardware with the “Unified Computing ‘unit. It was announced in March a series of blade servers and install a server rack in June that the network of computer components and virtualization combined.

Juniper is also introducing a new chipset and the modernization of the software platform. The new processors are part of a new family of “trio” integrated card product line and is touted to be able to define the bandwidth of the devices on the market today doubled.

Lam Chee Keong, director of marketing of business solutions, Juniper Asia Pacific, ZDNet Asia, said in an interview with the modular set of chips are on the cards MX-3D new line, and can ask for its range MX-series routers, Ethernet in smaller form factors.

MX80 a new router instead of one eighth of the competition so that more can be packed in a data center, said Lam.

Juniper also plans to open a new platform with the hope that the development of third-party network Junos operating system.

To promote the development of new coins of space Junos, the company has three applications together with the release of the platform to start. An application called Route Analyzer for shortages on the roads can be optimized between data centers.

Junos Space directed to building applications with graphical user interface for easy network management and automation of tasks is based, he said.

“We hope to eliminate boredom with some network management tasks in this context,” he said, these include the development of the typical tasks of the command line, the other in a command-line Drag drop, as might be transformed.

Juniper is also hoping that its hardware partners to launch applications for managing your equipment. For example, a provider of virtualization, an application that creates the automated movement of virtual machines through a router which automatically enables the Ethernet port and needed to close the connection after the whole movement, said Lam.

Greater momentum in the mid-market
These ads look Juniper obviously a piece of cake from the middle market segment, currently dominated by Cisco.

Lam said that is part of the paper, the OEM to make their way to their Juniper network equipment providers to sell new services already manages Dell computers with the network portion of Juniper. The partnership with Dell, which has been “particularly successful in the middle of the market with servers at low cost” offers a new way of marketing for Juniper, which has “traditionally focused on large companies.”

“The quickest way would be [Juniper] to extend the reach through partnerships,” he said.

As new products are designed for service providers, Lam expects the interest of companies to be high. “Enterprise [data center] is required to service the same time for more service providers as well.

“And start small businesses that require high scalability [network equipment],” he said.

Upgrading the hardware and software has also a step toward Juniper Cloud project “Stratus” is announced. He said to grow earlier this year to compete with other companies to a Web of data center converged with the efforts of Cisco.

Teams clouds Juniper products are ultimately very different given known, said Lam. “Only in the communication between hardware and software, and [are] strong virtualization.”
