Cisco 2500 Series Routers

The Cisco 2505, 2507, and 2516 are hub/routers that enable remote offices to provide both LAN and internetwork connectivity. These hub/routers combine the functions of a stand alone hub and router in one chassis to provide simpler setup, improved service ability and reliability, and integrated remote Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) network management.

Another note, through the BRI port, dial-up access is provided for backup or for low-cost, high-speed connectivity to private or public inter-networks. The two high-speed, synchronous serial WAN interfaces on each Cisco model deliver unprecedented flexibility, enabling access to leased lines, packet- and circuit-switched services, as well as -support of legacy systems such as IBM Synchronous Data Link Control (SDLC) devices.

All models use low-cost, unshielded twisted-pair cable wired in a star configuration for easy installation and offer from 8 (Cisco 2505), 14 (Cisco 2516), or 16 (Cisco 2507) Ethernet 10BaseT hub ports. No hub-to-router cabling is require. Everything is neatly contained in one compact desktop, rack-, or wall-mounted chassis.

Next, the Cisco 2516 includes an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI) port, allowing dial-up, high-speed access up to 128 kilobits per second (kbps). Cisco 2516 allows easy expansion by enabling additional units to be daisy-chained together using one of the 10BaseT ports.

Cisco 2500 Router hub/routers can be ordered with any of seven Cisco IOS feature sets. They range from low-cost, IP-specific feature sets to Enterprise (EN) sets that contain the full Cisco IOS. Each set includes Cisco’s unique AutoInstall capability, the “plug-and-play” router feature that allows rapid, economical router installation with -minimal expertise at remote sites.

Cisco 2500 Router access server series enables users to connect asynchronous devices such as dumb terminals, modems, router consoles, slot machines, and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) terminal adapters (TAs) into a routed network. Running the same Cisco IOS software that runs the backbone of the Internet on a high-performance router engine, this product family also gives users integrated synchronous serial ports to backhaul routed traffic through high-speed T1/E1 lines.

Cisco1004 Router

The Cisco 1004 ISDN router broadens the range of WAN options supported by the Cisco 1000 series routers. The Cisco 1004 includes all the features of the highly popular Cisco 1003 ISDN router and adds an integrated NT1 to the ISDN BRI port. Therefore, the Cisco 1004 is appropriate for use in North America, where customers normally supply the NT1.

Linksys touts Wireless-G routers

Networking product manufacturer Linksys is rushed off its feet today as it’s unveiling a raft of new products and hunting out new regional partners to help build on its recent growth. In fact, the firm is satisfied that the Middle East and Africa markets will become the quickest growing within the next one years, which has prompted it to make a massive showing at this year’s Gitex.

“Broadband availability in the Middle East and Africa is growing at a hasty pace, which is in itself driving the necessity for wireless networking hardware and voice over IP solutions,” says Mohammad Hoda, regional manager, Linksys. “As a result, our business in the Middle East is growing at an wonderful pace. they feel strongly that the Middle East and Africa is going to be one of the quickest growing regions for Linksys in the next few years.”

In tune with this, the company is showing off new products and know-how from its booth on the Cisco stand. Furthermore, Hoda says Gitex is the ideal opportunity for some of the Linksys solutions to make their mark. “Gitex is one of the most visible IT events in the Middle East and Africa, so it’s important for our business to be an element of such an event. they think that Gitex is one of the best platforms to deliver our message,” she says. The network firm is focusing specifically on demonstrating high-speed wireless hardware, security solutions and voice over IP know-how.

“The products are focused and target the quickest growing area of the IT industry. As a market leader, Linksys is the first to come up with distinctive technologies. they will show off our latest security over wireless solutions and voice over IP products, as they feel that these will complement the requirements of the region well,” says Hoda. One of these ‘unique’ technologies that is getting special attention today is the vendor’s new line of next generation Wireless-G (802.11g) products, which are designed to enhance the speed and range of a Wireless-G network. The Wireless-G Router with SRX (WRT54GX) and Wireless-G computer Card with SRX (WPC54GX) can provide quicker wireless network throughput, reduced dead spots, and increased wireless range over standard Wireless-G networks, or at least the Linksys team claim.

Those passing by the stand today won’t just get to see the new wireless line, but they will also learn that SRX is based on MIMO (Multiple In, Multiple Out) know-how, a key part in the upcoming Wireless-N (802.11n) standard. MIMO makes use of multiple radios (2) and antennae (3) on a wireless router or client adapter for improved performance in range and speed.

Aside from know-how chat, Linksys is also hoping to sign up new value added resellers this week as it looks to tap in to the region’s growing SMB market. That’s not all, Linksys will also launch a new channel programme some time this week.
