Cisco unveils new generation of branch routers

The ISR G2 is designed to address increasingly distributed and collaborative workforces, and is the cornerstone of a new Cisco architecture called Borderless Network. Borderless Network is a five-phase plan to deliver services and applications to someone anywhere, irrespective of device or network expertise.

Borderless Network is intended to support applications, processing cycles and services that are increasingly distributed and virtualized, such as those in cloud computing and software-as-a-service environments. Some analysts say it is over another Cisco “marketecture,” though.

Cisco shows off Cius Android tablet

The Cius sports Cisco’s collaboration software, which integrates virtual desktop applications with high-definition video. It is designed to be used for video conferencing and it connects to the internet via Wi-Fi or 3G.

The tablet is based on the Android operating system and features an interface that lets users access important contacts quickly. Like Apple’s iPad tablet, the Cius also has an accelerometer inside, enabling the screen to be orientated in a landscape or portrait format.

The Cico Cius is due to ship in early 2011 and is targeted at the healthcare, financial services, manufacturing and retail sectors.

Cisco enhances routers, switches for collaboration

Cisco is expanding its Integrated Services Routers (ISR) and Catalyst 4500 and 6500 changes with the new models, line cards and software to address the sustainable mobility and unified communications (UC) requirements.

For the ISR, Cisco is introducing two low-end models: the VDSL2 880 and 890. Both are aimed at small businesses and provide options for faster broadband and higher-performance, integrated security and wireless connectivity.

Another novelty is the ISR 1861W, which is aimed at small businesses with voice and wireline / wireless integration requirements. It is compatible with IEEE 802.11g WLAN.

Cisco is supporting High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) in the ISR module 3G Wireless Wide Area Network. HSPA increases bandwidth and performance to the form of backup or disaster recovery applications.

Cisco also said that Singlewire software applications now run on the platform of the Income Tax Extension applications (AXP) service module. Singlewire Informacast package simultaneously sends an audio stream or a text message to multiple IP phones, IP speakers, desktop systems and reporting systems overhead paging.

The ISR also now support the following features of UC collaboration and mobility:

* Cisco SIP Proxy to reduce the costs of implementing the UC.

* Firms voice network module IP security for secure voice calls.

* Mobility and video features in Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express.

* Card management capabilities of Cisco Unity Express time to improve the productivity of branch office employees.

EtherSwitch ISR computer’s Ethernet switching modules now support Cisco EnergyWise energy efficient technology to help improve the use of energy in the network.

For the Catalyst LAN switches, Cisco unveiled a supervisor module for the Catalyst 4500 series. The 6L-E is designed for the collaboration of resources and increase energy efficiency of wiring closet switches through support for Power over Ethernet (PoE) More than 30 watts.

PoE Plus is an extension of PoE standard for video and wireless access point.

Cisco also launched a line card 48 port 10/100/1000Mbps that allows 30 watts PoE for devices such as video phones, dual band wireless access points, devices, service and construction of video surveillance cameras. Cisco says it also extended its Smart Call Home support capacity and EnergyWise notification feature for the Catalyst 4500.

The Catalyst 4500 and Cisco switches every wiring closet, now also have a limited lifetime warranty, Cisco says.

For the Catalyst 6500, Cisco has enhanced its use in campus backbones through the integration of virtual switching system (VSS) and service capabilities of the switch module. This allows customers to deploy the firewall module, network analysis (NAM), and wireless modules in the main campus of VSS, for the scale of the spine and increasing reliability, Cisco says.

Meanhwhile, Cisco says there are a lot of life in the Catalyst 6500 despite the company launched the new generation of Nexus switch for data center applications unified structure. The link is optimized for environments while the Catalyst 6500 will probably not reach FibreChannel over Ethernet (FCoE) unified I / S without loss of data or Ethernet capabilities of the center said Srikant Kumar, vice president of product management for campus systems group Cisco switching technology.

But that does not mean that the 600,000 Catalyst 6500 chassis must be implemented for retirement, says Srikant. For example, the current Supervisor of 720 to VSS only 40 Gbps per slot in the system despite the Catalyst 6500 is capable of 80Gbps per slot, said.

Cisco routers get an upgrade

Cisco Systems submitted on Tuesday faster, more feature rich versions of their access routers hit in an attempt to fend off competition from rivals Juniper Networks and 3Com.

New Cisco 1800, 2800 and 3800 throughout the area network access routers feature embedded security measures and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP), a method for making phone calls over the Internet unregulated, rather than the heavily regulated and taxed traditional phone network, said Mike Volpi, senior vice president and general manager of the Group of Cisco routing technology.

“These devices you just need to direct traffic, but that will not do it anymore,” said Volpi. “We must do more.”

This equipment is typically used by small to medium businesses or large companies with branches. The routers sit at the customer’s network and provide access to Internet and other wide area services. Most of these devices are sold by companies, what they offer to their customers as part of their data networks and Internet services.

Cisco dominates the U.S. $ 4 billion a year market for such equipment, claiming a 90 percent share of the market. But in the last six months, Cisco rival Juniper Networks and 3Com have made efforts to attack Cisco’s dominant participation, according to Joel Conover, principal analyst at Current Analysis.

“Cisco’s platforms today are old,” said Conover. “Now he faces a new threat, competition, and – appropriately – has been working on a new platform for two years.”

The 1800 U.S. expenditures $ 1,395, the 2800 is U.S. $ 1,995 and are available this month. The 3800, around U.S. $ 9,500, Starts selling in October.

Cisco enhances routers, switches for collaboration

Cisco this week is expanding its branch routers and LAN switches in an effort to improve collaboration capabilities of enterprise customers.

Cisco is enhancing its Integrated Services Routers (ISR) and Catalyst 4500 and 6500 with new models of switches, line cards and software to address the sustainable mobility and unified communications (UC) requirements.

For the ISR, Cisco is introducing two models at the lower end: the VDSL2 880 and 890. Both are aimed at small businesses and offer broadband options faster and higher performance, integrated security and wireless connectivity.

Another novelty is the ISR 1861W, which is aimed at small businesses with voice and cable / wireless integration requirements. It is compatible with IEEE 802.11g WLAN.

Cisco is supporting High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) in the ISR module 3G Wireless Wide Area Network. HSPA increases the bandwidth and performance to the form of backup or disaster recovery applications.
